Happy Solstice! The days will now get longer.
We dont have seasons so we do new wipers when its winter for rain.
Make sure the tires have the right amount of pressure, and the winter tires have studs.
Put winter tires on before the snow flies
Last tip. Make sure to check your tire pressure from time to time during the winter. The cold can reduce the pressure and your tires may be underinflated.
I always check that I have an up to date insurance card in the car just in case my car gets stuck or needs to be towed.
I like to keep some extra blankets or jackets in my car just in case.
I keep water, food, blankets, extra gloves and socks in my car for emergencies.
A favorite tip for winter prepping your vehicle is to change to winter tires regardless of how much snow you get in your area. Winter tires are supposed to handle better in lower temperatures as well.
I put some windshield wiper fluid in a spray bottle, so I don’t have to scrape side windows or mirrors.
We have really no weather change we just make sure we have new wipers for when it rains.
Another tip is to make sure to fill your windshield washer fluid with antiicing fluid. It will protect the tubs that run into the car. I have blown 3 sets of tubes before I realized it could be helped with just a little maintenance before winter.
Use winter rated windshield washer fluid
Have a good flashlight in your car.
Get snow tires not all weather tires
I always make sure their is a blanket in the trunk
Check tire treads to be sure they’re okay for snow.
Have a windshield cover if your car stays outside.
Make sure you have a brush/scraper in the car
I have to remind myself to put new windshield wipers on before winter, but I often forget, so I keep a spare pair in the car. I also keep my portable battery charger charged and with me to make sure if my car won’t start, I’ve got the solution.
Keep an emergency kit in the car–first aid kit, blanket, snacks etc
Have supplies in your vehicle in case you get stuck someplace.
I always get an oil change before winter so they check all my fluids and my tires.
Have extra gloves in your car.
Keep a bag of sand in the trunk
It is also important to have a good ice scrapper in the car. Just about the moment you take it out is the moment you need it. A credit card can work in a pinch, but way better to plan ahead.
Having a kit with what you would need if you got stranded – a phone charger, a blanket, and a flashlight or flares so you can contact someone and stay safe and warm in the car while you wait.
Get your car washed and waxed.
Also having a pair of jumper cables is really important. Batteries often run low in the very cold temps and this will allow you to get home.
Check your wipers to make sure they will clear your windows
Have a good kit like this one in your car.
My tip is to always have a blanket in the trunk in case you ever get stranded. Staying warm is key.
Keep a shovel in the trunk
Get your car serviced before winter.
Make sure to switch your windshield washer fluid from the summer to winter type
I live in a super cold region so the most important thing for us is to keep the gas tank from getting low, and having a charged phone battery in case you run into trouble.
I like to keep a bag of sand or kitty litter in my trunk. It helps weigh down the back wheels. It doubles as grit you can put under your wheels if you get stuck in the snow.
Clean your car inside and out.
Keep food and water in your car.
Winter tires for your vehicle.
Put some extra warm clothes in the trunk.
Make sure to put antifreeze in your car!
Put kitty litter and a shovel in your trunk.
Give it a checkup.
My total must have for winter is a oild change and tire rotation, meanwhile making sure that your tires are still safe. Thank you !
Check your tires for wear.
As the autumn temperatures start to drop, take your car in for a full check up. Better safe than sorry!
Make sure to have your wipers checked.
The most important is to put winter tires on the car
I keep the gas over half full.
Make sure to add anti freeze as soon as the cold weather hits.
Get new antifreeze every fall.
Thanks for the contest.
You should always have extra clothes, gloves, hats and blankets in the car just in case.
So true, you never know when you might break down. I know I often forget how cold it gets when I am only outside to go from the door to the car. If stuck outside, even in the car for any period of time would not be fun.
Always carry a blanket in your car in the winter.
Salt works wonders for driveways and black ice
It does in a pinch. We keep a bag of it in our car too.
Keep a bag of sand in the car for traction on ice.
Yes! I was just telling my daughter she needed to get a couple of bags of sand to not only weight her little car down some but to have in case she gets stuck. Sand and a board to place under a tire.
I always have a blanket, flashlight, mittens, and water in my trunk.
We always have a flashlight, blanket, mitts, and touques in the van for winter months
Always back a coat in your car!
If your key lock is frozen, place your thumb over it for a minute or 2 and it will unfreeze allowing you into your car
Always have jumper cables and water in the car.
Making sure my windshield washers are filled up with below 32 degree fluid.
We don’t get terribly cold winters but I still check all the fluids and add anti freeze along with checking the wipers and making sure we have a flashlight, blanket, water and crackers in the car.
One year I gave both my boys military sleeping bags from the army surplus store to keep in their cars in case they ever got caught in a winter storm and could not get home.I thought at least they would be warm.
I never let my gas tank go below 1/4! Most of the time it isn’t much below 1/2 way!
have blanket in car
I prepare for winter driving by making sure I have good wiper blades and that the windshield wiper fluid is topped off.
My tip is to be sure to have good tires.
Throw a bag of sand in the car! So helpful if you get stuck in snow.
Keep a Shovel in the trunk.
I always make sure that my tires are in good shape, and that my battery is in good running condition also. I have had dead batteries in the past, (not good)
Everyone needs this. My mom took my dad’s out of the car after he passed away. Less than a year later, she needed a jump & had no cables “because it took up too much room in her trunk”
My tip is to have your car checked out by a mechanic before the weather turns bad. Make sure your car is in top operating condition so you don’t get stranded on a dark ,snowy night.
Check the tires.
Were in ca so we dont do anything for winter new windshield wipers are the only thing we do.
I would call that being prepared. Even when we lived in Florida, I kept a box in car with snacks, water, and other misc items in case we had car trouble.
I have a flashlight and cables i my car
