Easy Hamburger Pie
This meal is a remake of a hearty beef pie that I loved as a child. It can be made with any vegetables you like which is a great way to use up left overs. Maybe we should call it Left Over Pie!
Ingredients:
1.5 lbs. ground beef
1 onion, diced
3 carrots, diced
3 celery stalks, diced
2 garlic cloves, minced
1 Tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
1 can 8oz tomato sauce (or salsa, spag sauce, soup)
1 cup shredded cheddar cheese
Salt & Pepper
Pie Pastry crust for 9” double crusted
1 beaten egg with 1 tablespoon water (egg wash)- optional
In a large pan, cook ground beef, onion, carrots, garlic and celery until beef is cooked (10 minutes)
Drain and place in back in pan
Stir in Worcestershire sauce, tomato sauce and shredded cheddar in meat mixture
While the above is cooking, prepare pie pan by rolling out 1 pastry shell and fit into pie pan
Add meat mixture to pie pan
Roll out second pastry sheet and place on top, crimp edges and cut vent slits
Brush top and edges with egg wash (optional wash – helps with browning)
Bake at 425 for 15 minutes, then reduce heat to 350 and bake until crust is done – about 20 minutes
This can be made in 45 minutes if you have to cook the meat mixture. I usually keep hamburger on hand that is already browned with vegetables. Using the freezer beef I can have this on the table in just about 30 minutes.
This looks really good! I am going to have to try this! I think I may had potatoes in with it! Thanks for the great recipe 🙂
Yum. This is like a beef pot pie, I guess. Looks easy and good.
