Record Hands Free with GoGloo Glasses
Do you enjoy recording your trips or activities but find holding a camera bothersome? Me too. There are some activities that I really need to be hands free and have often wondered what would be the best action camera for these times.
I have tried the cameras that can be mounted on a helmet or strapped to my body but neither are those are, for me anyway, comfortable to wear and since my activities are not such that would warrant wearing a helmet, I feel I draw attention to myself walking around in one.
So when I was approached by the makers of GoGloo Glasses and asked to try a pair of their glasses I was intrigued.
According to the product description, these glasses were designed by Swedish engineers to be lightweight, comfortable, durable and eco-friendly. They also sport polarized lens and record in 720P/1080P Full HD.
Additionally, the camera supports low light and night recording, which is great for those times I am inside or when traveling or touring at night and don’t want to use a flash.
The camera can be tilted up or down for the perfect angle needed, and all the controls are on the frame for easy reach. One click control of most of the features means you don’t have to take them off to make them work.
I have enjoyed wearing the GoGloo glasses even as just sun glasses because they are comfortable to wear and have really dark lenses. The lenses are removable and can be interchanged with other styles and the nose bridge pads can also be adjusted for the perfect fit.
As you can see, my daughter also enjoys wearing them as they remind her of the Terminator and make her look tough. LOL!
As far as setting these glasses up and using them, I didn’t think they were as easy as described or as the packaging claimed. Or, disclaimer here, it may have been user error…I am NOT the most technical person around. I struggled with the app and getting the recordings to sync with my computer for editing.
Thankfully, after an afternoon of trial and error (and reaching out to their customer service), I was able to get everything set up and working.
The actual recording made from the glasses is great. The quality and sound surprised me in a good way. Shooting with a 8M Sony sensor and with a 110°wide angle, the recording is almost just as you see it through the glasses. And because it has dual stereo microphones, the sounds quality is nice and clear. There isn’t any background sounds messing up your videos.
Images shot from the glasses are comparable to images taken with my phone so no complaints there either.
A couple of things that I do like about the glasses are that they can still record even while they are on my portable charging station. As with most video shooting equipment, the battery never lasts as long as you want it to and taking time to find a place to charge it and wait isn’t optimal. With my favorite charger, I can slip it in my pocket and continue to record or take photos with the GoGloo glasses. The cord just looks like I am wearing earbuds and no one even notices it.
If you are looking for a solid sport or action video camera, I would recommend giving the GoGloo Glasses a long look. The idea someone could be filming me while we chat is… disconcerting
Thanks for your very thorough review! I enjoyed learning about these glasses.
These look amazing! And I really cannot tell the difference between you and your daughter – you both look so young!
