Life has a way of changing our well thought our plans..in a heartbeat. Just like the young couple in this new movie Like Arrows found out as they realized their lives were about to change forever.
Like Arrows is the story of a young couple facing an unexpected pregnancy and all the stress that involves being married and having children while dealing with the fears and baggage from their childhoods. Not knowing where to get the help they both knew they needed, they accepted an invitation to attend a church service with a newly made friendship.
As the friendship between the couples grow, so do their families. Just as in our lives, there are struggles in the marriage relationship and in their parenting styles build up until there is a crisis. This is where they come together as a family and really start to understand that teaching our children in the Faith is more important than just teaching them to be good people. It’s not enough to focus on their spiritual growth as a part of them, but that it should be the center of them. And we as parents know all to well that the days of raising children are long but the time is short.
Psalm 127:4 reads: As arrows are in the hand of a warrior, so are the children of one’s youth.
As a parent, it is our responsibility to live our faith in front of our children and to train them so they can be sent into the world able to stand on their own. To teach them how to handle the sin in the world, not just how to avoid it. To let them see you on your knees in prayer over others and the family.
There is one line in the movie that really touched my heart and I think it summarizes the movie. It was that we needed to teach our children how to live in Jesus and not just find a way to fit Jesus into our lives.
Parents, it’s never too late to start living the example you want to instill in your children. Spend time in the Word as a family. Pray for each other and most importantly, allow your children to know that you mess up too, and that they can come to their Heavenly Father for forgiveness. Make your life in the center of God’s Will…where all the spiritual blessings are found.
I appreciated seeing the accountability with other parents to support each other in this battle against the world.
