Safe Screen Time with P King Duckling
With school out and the little ones all at home, finding safe screen time activities can be a challenge. My crew recently started watching a show that actually has the entire family laughing! Of course you know it has one of those cute theme songs that is sung over and over…so you as the adults end up walking around with it stuck in our heads but that’s okay.
Our early morning show on Disney Junior is now P. K Duckling starting at 8:05 am. The show is about the crazy activities and adventures of a friendly but goofy (as my crew calls him) duck named P. King.
He and his friends (Wombat and Chumpkins) face many challenges as they go about their adventures. Honestly, you have to laugh at the one liners and the creative solutions the three of them come up with to solve their poblems.
The show was developed by Dr. Christine Ricci, who also created Dora the Explorer. Like the other show, this series encourages positive thinking and making the most of your curiosity. I also appreciate that it talks about being yourself because that is the best you can be!
The main focus of the show is to help teach children how to overcome challenges through thinking the challenge through and coming up with a way to handle it.
P. King Duckling, is of course, a duck. He is a duck with a big dream. He actually has lots of dreams and slips right into character whether he is a scientist, an architect, a pizzeria owner or even a mountain climber!
As a parent, I like that challenges are taught to be considered in a positive light. Not everything is going to go like we want it to go, and that’s okay as long as we keep trying, keep dreaming and keep coming up with creative ideas to solve our problems together.
Parental information on the core values taught in this series:
1. Challenge Yourself – Encouraging children to try new things, don’t give up and “Seize the Day!”
2. Express Yourself – Empowering children to think and express themselves creatively through music, dance, role play… but most importantly to have fun and be yourself.
3. Do-it-Yourself – Inspiring children to build, create and play using their imagination.
4. See for Yourself – Motivating children to journey near and far… “Next stop, the moon!”
Just a quick listen to the theme song and you will be singing along too!
Doesn’t it sound like a great series to watch with your little ones?
