Tablets Overtake Desktops
Have you made the switch from desktop to laptop? How about desktop to tablet? For me the biggest draw back is my keyboard. I type and type and type all day. To try to work on a tablet…well.. just say that it threatens the well being of my tablet after about an hour!
However, in a recent report by IDC – they report that tablets will over take desktop computers in number of units shipped during 2013 and will exceed laptop computers in 2014. Wow! I don’t know if I want to give up my desktop! I have dual monitors that spoil me when it comes to having to work on something else.
I can easily understand why Smartphones out shipped desktops. I wonder if any of this has to do with desktops lasting longer or not being replaced as often as our smartphones? I know I start looking for a new smartphone every year but only replace my desktop every three or four years.
It is projected that in 2014, smartphone shipments will exceed one billion for the first time! Now that just blows my mind!
Today’s chart from Statista shows a forecast of global smartphone, tablet and PC shipments from 2012 through 2017.
Are you ready to toss out your desktop and laptop for a tablet? How do you adjust to the smaller unit?
Desktops have definitely gone the way of the typewriter, explaining why they are so cheap. But I doubt laptops will go for a long time. A trend that I have seen lately is that a family is more likely to just share one or two laptops for the whole family, yet each member might have their own tablet.
Wow, that’s interesting. Not surprising entirely though.
I use my laptop and tablet more than my desktop ’cause it’s accessible. My tablet goes everywhere with me – yes I’m one of those people. I’m leaving this comment via my tablet – even though it doesn’t have a physical keyboard I’ve gotten pretty good at using the touch screen.
i use my laptop more then my desktop. i like the fact that i can take my laptop form room to room with me and on trips
I never used my tablet for writing. I definitely need a keyboard.
